Stranded-10 Days That Changed Our Lives

There are certain days, where we feel drawn in a certain direction. Maybe it’s fate playing her cards, maybe it’s some other spiritual force, we’ll never know. There will be no reason, no logical explanation, just an inexplicable urge to follow that road. This time, unknown to us, it would be a time we’d never forget. A time we’d learn so much of what it means to struggle. What it means to be stripped bare of everything we’re so falsely told we need in this life, and what it means to blindly and boldly trust, let go and fall into the safety net of Mother Nature.

What Can Go Wrong on a Road Trip?

Road trips are not without complications. You may be expecting to just jump in your wagon, hit the road, and have a smooth ride. However, this is rarely the case! Although some of the problems we have had have been pretty comical, some have set us back and cost us a chunk of our budget.

The Three Van-Dwellers

H aving broken down again, we were feeling pretty worse for wear. We were pulled up at the side of a small country road, somewhere in the south of France. However that day, our bad luck seemed to be balanced with an equal amount of good luck. It was almost as though they had been sent to visit us, one by one.

Hill Farming - A Day in the Life of a Van-Dweller

As we drew nearer to our destination, the main roads fizzled out into quaint country lanes, winding through peaceful villages of stone cottages and cobbled streets. The landscape began to break up into hillsides and creeks, getting ever more dramatic as we drew nearer. The light began to dwindle, as we hit the dirt track at the bottom of the farm. Dust flew up behind us, wheels desperately spinning, as we attempted the steep incline to the house.

Plitvice...

Picture
Caught somewhere between fairy tale and reality, Plitvice lakes were like something out of a long forgotten dream. Turquoise water fell from ledges of pure crystal white. The snow covered paths where people had walked, had been compacted into a frozen marble.

Slovenia...

Picture
After a rather boring and tedious drive through France and northern Italy. We reached Slovenia. The flat landscape morphed into towering mountains, looming above us as we drew nearer. The seemingly endless towns and industrial estates, fizzled out into wilderness. The roads began to snake around the hillsides and snow started to litter the ground.

Sot De Chers -Exploring the Forgotten Spanish Countryside

As we made our way up through the flat landscape, occasionally glimpsing the edge of a vineyard or orange grove. We had no idea where exactly we were heading. You see, to us it's not the destination that's important, it's the journey you take to get there. It must have been around midday; the Spanish heat beat down on the windscreen. Suddenly the landscape seemed to change. The flat planes dropped away to reveal what felt like a different world.

Making a Living on the Road

A question that gets thrown around a lot and one I'm sure hundreds of people are dying to know the answer to is 'How do you make a living while on the road'. Having a 'normal' job with a fixed premise is just not possible. Yet there are endless stories, including mine, of people who have swapped their nine to five job for a life on the road. Being a wild, free traveler isn't as simple as quitting your job, buying a van, and going! You need a way of generating an income, something that can stop your dream in its tracks. However there are hundreds of ways to generate money while travelling, and there is bound to be one that suits you!

A Day in the Life of a Van-Dweller

We woke up somewhere in the south of France, surrounded by cork trees in our own little secret spot. An array of wild herbs filled the air with beautiful scents. Scents that awoke my senses as I slowly drifted out of a peaceful sleep. Coupled with the smell of fresh coffee, I couldn't think of anything sweeter. Just us, our little home van, and the wilderness.

the road!
While we do earn our money selling the wonderful things we find along the road, things like fuel and ferry crossings can be costly! I adore writing about and sharing my stories and photos with you and I sincerely hope I can continue to do so.
So I have lovingly created a few designs that will hopefully give me the extra funds I need to continue my journey.
